  • We are now well over a month into a societal shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. The toll is staggering. Thousands have gotten sick and thousands have died. Our economy has suffered greatly resulting in what is now over 20 million Americans without employment. Anxiety, depression, and other effects of isolation have already resulted as well.

Thankfully, many of you are not facing unemployment or a loss of income at this time. So, you may be wondering if there is any way your family can help those who are.

  • Nothing can replace being in each other’s actual physical presence for fun social interaction, learning, prayer, and worship. But hopefully these events taking place online will give us at least some sense of being together, and an encouraging reminder of our union with Christ together, through a common faith. We are never, ever truly alone. He is with us, always. And by His Spirit, though apart, we are always one in Jesus.

  • We sadly, will be canceling all worship services at the church building through April 12th, 2020. This statement also explains how people can give financially to MCC during this time, including an online option that is being setup and hopefully available some time soon.

  • Here is an update concerning four areas of our ministry at MCC during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis as of March 21st, 2020.

  • Long Term Plan and Strategy

I promised you an update on where our long-term plan and strategy is currently, concerning the pandemic crisis. As you know, this is a very fluid situation. Thank you for being patient with our leaders, as our Session and Diaconate prayerfully weigh in and decide on matters related to this ever-evolving challenge.

  • We have canceled our Worship Services for March 15th and 22nd, 2020. However, we hope to Stream Live on Online for a time of worship together. This statement explains how people can join us online for these two weeks and other weeks when we may need to cancel our worship services at MCC. Whether or not you can join us live online, this document also contains some basic instructions in how you can worship the Lord with others in your home while we practice social distancing during this crisis.

  • On Friday, March 12th, 2020, Governor Tom Wolf issued an order that all schools in Pennsylvania, grades K-12 are to be closed for the next ten business days effective Monday, March 16th, 2020.

In light of this, we have decided to cancel all worship services, Sunday School Classes, as well as all MCC related events and activities effective Saturday, March 14th, 2020 through Saturday, March 28th, 2020. This will include events related to Student Fellowship, Women’s Fellowship, Men’s Fellowship, Community Groups, etc.

  • Suggested Practices on March 9th

First, as Christians we know that Christ reigns supreme over all things. As Presbyterians, we celebrate and hope in His complete sovereignty over all things. God is in control, and we can trust him. So, while this, or any other historical moment, is not a time for panic or to be controlled by fear and anxiety, it is also not a time to be reckless and unprepared. And so, I hope the following will provide some helpful tips and wise practices for us to commit to as we seek to be extra vigilant in doing our part to keep the spread of this or any other disease at bay in our midst.
