On December 31, 2014 a new child protection law went into effect in Pennsylvania that requires how we ensure the safety of all our children and youth while in the care of others at Murrysville Community Church. Under the new changes in the PA law, employees and volunteers who work in direct contact with children and youth (anyone under the age of 18) will be required to submit documentation of the following background checks:
All of our volunteers who have contact with children at MCC will be required to complete steps 1 and 2. Only those who are paid employees or those who have lived outside of the state of Pennsylvania in the past 10 years will need to complete step 3. All volunteers will also need to fill out a residency form available in the church office.
Please visit the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare site. You will be required to log in if you already have an account or create a new account in the Child Welfare Portal. Results are generated quickly--by email, and follow the link to print the form. If you are completing this form online and choose “volunteer” the clearance will be free.
Please visit PA Access to Criminal History. In the middle of the webpage, select "Submit a New Record Check." If you are completing this form online and choose “volunteer” the background check is free. Print the result page.
This step only needs to be completed if you have lived outside the state of Pennsylvania in the last 10 years or you’re a paid employee of the church. You must pre-register on the Cogent website and take your registration and photo ID with you to one of the approved fingerprinting locations.
Once you receive your completed forms, submit copies in a CONFIDENTIAL envelope to the church office. You may also request a pre-filled reimbursement form, also available in the church office, to cover the cost of the clearances and/or fingerprinting if necessary.
