Jeannette Green Spaces

A ministry that combats food deserts while transforming urban blight into community gardens, Jeannette Green Spaces provides low-cost produce at a weekly Farmer's Market to the economically underprivileged in Jeannette.

The Urban Gardens

A recent article in the Jeannette Spirit cited blight as one of the biggest problems the City of Jeannette is currently facing. The Urban Gardens of Jeannette Green Spaces is a ministry to the community that seeks to turn blighted areas and abandoned lots into signs of life and hope through transforming them into flourishing community gardens. These gardens become opportunities to minister the grace of our Lord Jesus who, although he was rich, became poor for our sakes, so that by his poverty we might become rich (2 Corinthians 8:9), by providing very low-cost and affordable produce to the residents of Jeannette. This meets a dire need of the economically underprivileged in the City because Jeannette is what has been termed a Food Desert - or an area with no grocery store or access to fresh produce on a regular basis. The Urban Gardens also bring residents of the community together in a context in which true discipleship can happen, the one thing that makes the difference in breaking the cycle of poverty. The Gardens are an avenue for teaching principles such as hard-work, investment, generosity, etc. They also become avenues to bring together area master gardeners and children from local schools and after-school programs for teaching opportunities.

Partner with us at the Gardens every Tuesday evening during Spring, Summer, and Fall! We meet at the Salvation Army, 1100 Clay Ave Extension, Jeannette, PA 15644 at 6:30PM. Directions:
