Team Moose Factory | Day 6 (Recap)
Team Moose Factory enjoyed another great day of ministry yesterday. Here are some highlights:
The day began with an early rise to help serve breakfast to hundreds assembled for the annual Gathering of Our People event. After service, the teams set up for an early day of Vacation Bible School at the community center. While the numbers were down a bit (due to a change in time and location), the exposure of VBS to the community increased dramatically since it was held in such a prominent, public location. The kids that attended were super enthusiastic about it, and now know the team members by name. They sang songs, enjoyed craft time, ate snacks, and played games – learning about Jesus every step of the way.
Pastor Jon and the Covenant Community PCA of Wexford portion of our team introduced the youth and adults of the island to “Angle Ball.” What started as a light, morning game of angle ball among seven players turned into an all-afternoon battle involving dozens of our team members and Cree residents of all ages. This was a great development. Attracting the middle and high school youth of Moose Factory is often a difficult enterprise. “Angle Ball” proved a big hit and occasioned many new relationships. Thanks, Rip Engle, former head coach of Penn State, for inventing it!
As the game went on, a couple of team members returned to the Cree Gospel Chapel to continue volunteer work – specifically, painting the sanctuary floor, repairing some walls, etc. Later in the day, several members of our team were invited to assist as servers for an invitation-only dinner of the Cree leadership at the emergency services building. This was a true honor. The chief, as well as other dignitaries, were in attendance.
In the evening, many of our team took part in the “Gospel Night” at the Gathering of Our People. Our team sang three songs of praise and worship, sharing God’s gracious pathway of salvation (by God’s grace alone through the gift of faith alone through Jesus Christ alone) with the crowd of hundreds in attendance. Incidentally, the Cree believers who sang and played last night were awesome! It was an uplifting, Christ-honoring time of praise.
There are many more details to share, but I will leave that for our members when they get home. For now, please let these reports encourage you to continue in prayer for the Cree of Moose Factory and us as we seek to serve alongside them for the glory of Christ.
More soon!
